Leather Quarter Binding

Regular price $350.00 USD

Leather Quarter Binding is an advanced two-day class focused on constructing a finished book that incorporates leather as a structural and visual element. The emphasis is on working with leather specifically as a bookbinding material, where surface, thickness, and preparation play a critical role in the final result.

Students will work through the complete process of constructing a leather quarter binding, learning how binding leather is prepared, pared, and handled with care. This type of leather behaves very differently from leather used in furniture, clothing, or accessories, and the class allows time to understand its qualities, respond to its sensitivity, and develop confidence working with it in a controlled, supportive setting.

Because leather introduces irreversible steps and benefits from a deliberate pace, this class is best suited to students who already have a solid foundation in bookbinding. Instruction is close and attentive, giving students the opportunity to slow down, ask questions, and experience how patience and preparation shape a successful outcome.

Participants leave with a finished leather bound book and a deeper respect for the material - often along with a clearer sense of whether working with leather feels intimidating, irresistible, or somewhere in between.
