The Turkish Map Book is a long-form, two-day class that explores a thoughtful adapted book structure designed to hold folded maps that open and close smoothly within the pages. While the finished book looks familiar at first glance, it’s been quietly adjusted to accommodate the movement and thickness of folded maps without sacrificing how the book functions.
Over the course of the class, students will learn how folding strategies, sewing choices, and structural decisions work together to support the maps as part of the book, rather than as added elements. There’s a lot of satisfaction in watching these pieces come together — especially when the maps open fully and then tuck back into place just as they should.
Because of the number of steps involved, this class unfolds at a slower, more generous pace over two days, allowing time for careful work, questions, and course corrections along the way. This class is designed for students with prior bookbinding experience who enjoy thoughtful multi-step work. Participants leave with a finished book and a deeper appreciation for how small structural choices can make a book both useful and a pleasure to handle.
